JUDI AND PETER WASSERMAN TO BE HONORED AT 2ND ANNUAL OPERA UNDER THE STARS HOSTED BY OPERAARTS
(March 11, 2011)—Indian Wells, CA—OperaArts Board President Arlene Rosenthal announced today that Judi and Peter Wasserman will be honored with the St. Cecilia Patron of Music Award at this year’s Opera Under the Stars on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Renaissance Esmeralda Hotel in Indian Wells.
The award is a bronze sculpture of a shoe from Indian Wells artist Gesso Cocteau.
“Every year we give an actual piece of sculpture away as our award,” explains Rosenthal. “This helps us demonstrate the importance of spreading a love of music and fine arts to the community as our mission states. Cocteau’s shoe is a glamorous metaphor for the miles and miles the Wasserman’s have walked in their commitment to supporting chartable causes and their overall philanthropic efforts.”
The elegant evening begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Rose Lawn and includes a sit-down dinner and show. Tickets are $125.00 or $1,250.00 for a table of ten and can be purchased by calling 760-323-8353.
Entertainment features OperaArts’ music director Victoria Kirsch, soprano Shana Blake Hill, tenor Christopher Campbell and bass-baritone Cedric Berry for an evening of operatic passion, glorious arias and ensembles from Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, Porgy and Bess, The Pearlfishers, West Side Story and The New Moon, plus beloved songs from Hollywood movies and Parisian bistros.
OperaArts is a non-profit organization whose goals are to bring quality music, specifically Opera and Operetta to the public at large, accompanied by fine displays of the visual arts. OperaArts was created from the collaborative efforts of a small consortium of community residents and opera aficionados.
Opera Under the Stars is co-chaired by board members Arlene Rosenthal, Kira Klatchko, and Kimberly Nichols as well as local community leaders Jackie Lee Houston and Mary Roche.
More information about the event can be found online at www.operaarts.org or by calling 760-323-8353.
